Amanda was initially introduced to physical therapy when she was 13 years old, following a knee injury from dance. The part about physical therapy that particularly stuck with Amanda was how the physical therapists taught her how to move differently in order to decrease her pain and prevent further injury. She hoped to be able to do this for her patients, so when she applied to undergraduate programs, it was with the goal of becoming a physical therapist. She went to California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology.
She went on to attend the University of Southern California where she received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2010. Amanda had many opportunities to work with a wide range of clinical specialists, giving her a wide knowledge base, and she assisted in a research project identifying injuries to classical guitarists.
In 2011, Amanda furthered her education by undergoing the Orthopedic Residency Program at the University of Southern California. She was mentored by the top orthopedic surgeons at USC, the top clinical specialists in the Los Angeles area, and was given the opportunity to work with specialists from other countries, including England and Australia. She earned her Orthopedic Clinical Specialty in 2012. Amanda taught Orthopedics and Patient Management for the Doctorate of Physical Therapy program at USC and is currently a mentor for the Orthopedic residency program, mentoring and testing the current residents.
Amanda has spent the last five years working at a clinic specializing in sports medicine & rehabilitation. She saw a wide variety of high school and college sports injuries, as well as injuries sustained by weekend warriors. She was the clinical instructor for physical therapy students completing their clinical rotations. Amanda has also had the opportunity to work with a lymphadema specialist and learned about the care needed for patients with lymphadema following removal of lymphnodes due to cancer.
Amanda is an active volunteer for the medical team at the AVP volleyball tournaments in Huntington Beach working with professional volleyball players.
