Maria Haralambis began her dance training at the age of 3 under the instruction of Judy Menna and Meredith Shamanski at Trenton School of Dance. Her training was primarily focused in Ballet, Pointe, Jazz, Lyrical, and Cecchetti along Hip Hop, Hawaiian, and Tahitian dance. Miss Maria graduated from Wayne State University as an Honors Student with a Bachelor of Science degree in Dance. She is now continuing her education in graduate school where she is pursuing a Master's Degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science. She has been further trained in Modern and Contemporary styles, Pointe, Improvisation, Afro-Modern Dance, Contemporary Ballet, and African dance. As a dancer at Wayne State, she's had the opportunity to learn from world-renowned choreographers and ballet masters including Meg Paul, Trey McIntyre, Eddie Taketa, Nathan Trice, Larry Lavendar, and Garth Fagan. Maria currently teaches at three locations: Trenton School of Dance, her own Pilates by Maria Boutique, and the Dance Department at Wayne State University.
As a certified Pilates Instructor & Dance Science specialist, Maria mainly trains pre-professional and professional dancers. She brings her knowledge of dance science, anatomy, and biomechanics (along with the latest research in Dance Science) into the dance class and into her teaching. As a result, dancers enhance their performance, apply technical corrections in a more anatomically sound way, decrease their risk of injury, and are able to learn more about their bodies at a younger age. Specifically, Maria has worked with dancers for things like postural corrections, breathing techniques, foam rolling, balance, proprioception, agility training, injury rehabilitation, pelvic stability, and increasing turnout safely and efficiently.
