In addition to his professional dance career, Kurt has been a personal trainer for 21 years, a competitive gymnast/gymnastics coach for 25 years, and a Pilates instructor for 10 years. He is a Certified Exercise Physiologist with the American College of Sports Medicine, a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and a USA Weightlifting Sports Performance Coach. He holds Pilates certifications in both equipment and matwork from Pilates Academy International in New York City, is a Level 1 and 2 Certified Core Align instructor, and he is a certified trainer in Redcord, a dual suspension training system. Kurt is also Pilates Pre and Post-Natal certified, and he is certified in Fascial Movement Taping/ Kinesiology Taping.
With his extensive knowledge of the body and his experience as a dancer, gymnast and personal trainer, he was able to develop such classes as Gymnastics for Dancers, featured in Dance Magazine (March 2011) and Gymtensity, a gymnastics conditioning class featuring a boot camp style workout involving ring training, basic gymnastics conditioning and calisthenics. Kurt has taught and worked with elite athletes and recreational athletes from ages 3 to 76. Kurt has trained and worked with professional dancers, Cirque du Soleil performers, competitive figure skaters, competitive gymnasts and competitive hockey players to name only a few. Kurt was also the Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach for the men’s and women’s soccer teams at Russell Sage College. While living in New York City Kurt had the opportunity to train celebrities from movies and television, and their children, as well as Middle Eastern royalty.
As a physical therapist, Kurt aims to provide patient-centered care that treats the body as a whole; to get to the root of the issue rather than just treating the symptoms. He also aims to provide his patients with the tools and education to further their knowledge of their presenting issues….. Kurt is currently taking coursework to work towards becoming a Certified Functional Manual Therapist through the Institute of Physical Art.
In his spare time, Kurt enjoys doing gymnastics, surfing, bodyboarding and playing guitar.
