Sarah L. Riggen, PT, DPT
Sarah began dancing recreationally at the age of 7 in Metro Detroit. She started dancing competitively by middle school until graduating from high school. As a senior in high school, Sarah was selected as a company member for LA DanceMagic, a national dance convention. During this time, she would travel to different cities around the country to assist the professional instructors at the convention.
Sarah later received a bachelor of arts in Dance Performance/Choreography from Hope College in 2014. She was selected for the Distinguished Artist Award scholarship as a freshman. Sarah was also a member of two pre-professional companies while dancing at Hope; dANCEpRojECt under the direction of Steven Iannacone and H2 Dance Co. for its premier season under the direction of Matthew Farmer and Crystal Frazier. She began her teaching journey at a local studio as a junior in college. After graduating, Sarah spent a year training with professional dance company, LehrerDance, in Buffalo, NY under the direction of Jon Lehrer before starting physical therapy school.
Sarah graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) with her Doctorate of Physical Therapy in May of 2018. She then moved back to the suburbs of Detroit with her husband and dog and began her career as a physical therapist. Sarah also started teaching competitive dance again at this time.
Sarah became interested in physical therapy while dancing at Hope as she was treated by the physical therapist within the dance department who also had a background in dance. Sarah ultimately wanted to be part of a profession where she could help people. She loves incorporating what she knows about the human body from dance into her everyday PT practice. Sarah jumps at any chance she gets to combine her two passions in life. She is passionate about working with other dancers to help them return to dance and prevent injuries during training. She also loves treating pediatrics, vestibular dysfunction, and pelvic health in the PT clinic.
