Jan Dunn, MS is a dance educator/dance medicine specialist with 33 years of experience, a Pilates rehabilitation and conditioning specialist for 30 years, and a Franklin Method Educator for 16 years, based in Denver, CO. Her degrees are in Dance and Exercise Science. She is currently:
Co-Chair of the Bridge Dance Project (https://thebridgedanceproject.com), Co-Director of Denver Dance Medicine Associates (www.denverdancemedicine.com) on the USA Advisory Board of Safe in Dance International (SiDI), and Dance Wellness Editor for the online site, 4dancers.org.
Jan was on the dance faculties of several universities and dance conservatories for 35+ years, including the University of Colorado – Boulder, Florida State University, Connecticut College, Colorado College, Hartford Ballet, and Washington University. Her area of specialization in university positions for the last 28 years has been in dance medicine and science, teaching subjects such as anatomy, exercise physiology, biomechanics, kinesiology, and injury risk reduction.
She was one of the founders of IADMS (International Association for Dance Medicine and Science), serving two terms as President, as Executive Director, and on the Board of Directors (1990–2012). She founded and served as Chair of the National Dance Association’s Committee on Dance Medicine and Science (1988-1993), and was organizer and Co-Chair, International Dance Medicine Conference - Taiwan 2004, sponsored by Polestar Pilates Education.
Jan initiated/coordinated Dance Wellness and Pilates programs for the University of Colorado (Boulder, CO, 2009), Loyola Marymount University Dance Dept. (Los Angeles, CA, 2005), and the School of Ballet Nouveau Colorado (now Colorado Conservatory of Dance) (Denver, CO, 2009). She organized a SiDI Teacher Training Certification Course at the University of CO-Boulder in 2014.
In the Pilates world, Jan’s background includes original training from Elizabeth Larkam, MA - St. Francis Memorial Hospital, San Francisco, and additional certifications in Pilates rehabilitation from Polestar Pilates. She initiated and directed Pilates Rehab programs in physical therapy clinics in CT and CO, over a 20-year period.
