Bio:

Kerry is a former professional ballet dancer and Certified Advanced Pilates Instructor of 20 years. She specializes in helping dancers and athletes achieve peak performance, injury prevention and rehabilitation. Kerry holds two major Pilates certifications, the first through Stott. The second, was with second-generation Master Instructor, Roberta Kirschenbaum. Kirschenbaum is the owner and director of Rolates Pilates, Joseph Pilates original studio in NYC. Kerry is proud to hold this intensive classical certification and be a third-generation Pilates teacher.

Kerry’s Pilates practice of 28 years was an integral part to her long and successful ballet career. She danced with many nationally recognized ballet companies. She also danced with several contemporary ballet companies in NYC, and served as the associate artistic director of Lydia Johnson Dance. During a performance, she suffered a back injury that doctors called career ending. With the help of Pilates she was back on stage within a year. Kerry’s passionate about sharing her knowledge and experience of movement as a resource for healing.

Attending the University of Utah, she graduated with high honors, and received a BFA in ballet performance. She is a certified Progressing Ballet Technique teacher. Kerry worked privately with Marika Molnar to offer her clients Molnar’s innovative Parasetter and Minis. Kerry traveled to Connecticut to work privately with first-generation teacher and Pilates legend, Mary Bowen. Kerry Shea Pilates has been featured in Pilates Style Magazine for her work with dancers.

Kerry is known for her trained eye in biomechanics, intuitive sense of movement and holistic approach–mind, body, spirit. She is thrilled to be working with dancers and athletes from her boutique studio in Charlottesville, VA. She offers dancers custom-designed workouts tailored to the dancers individual needs, myofascial release and stretch, ballet coaching, and ballet classes blending Pilates and ballet. Currently, Kerry has been in demand with dancers locally and nationally, for her ballet technique retraining program. Her repatterning program has been essential for peak performance, surpassing career plateaus, injury prevention and rehabilitation. It has been extremely effective and successful for all levels of dancers.

Kerry can offer a dancer the quality of improvement using her keen eye for movement and Pilates. As a dancer herself, she innately understands the entire body and style to best move the body in its advanced form. You will not regret adding Kerry’s education to improve on stage!
