Amy has over a decade of experience as a physical therapist. She is a retired dancer and is the Director of Dance Medicine for New Heights Physical Therapy. Working through her own dance rehabilitation set the stage for Amy to pursue physical therapy specific for dancers. Her dance background taught her to watch movement to the most intimate detail, and she now takes this level of attention and applies it to all of her patients. Amy brings compassion and unique treatment skills to every patient. It is this attention to detail of movement, combined with her training as a dancer, that informs her treatment philosophy to help all of her patients get strong and feel better. Amy works with each person to develop a specific exercise program unique to their individual needs. Amy is highly skilled as a manual therapist and also has experience in women’s health pelvic floor physical therapy.
As a Doctor of Physical Therapy specialized in Dance Medicine, Amy is frequently asked to give presentations and workshops to Portland area dance studios, schools, professional companies and summer intensives about dance injuries and dance injury prevention. She is the contributing physical therapist for The Ellové Technique® a dance specific cross-training program taught nationally in dance studios. Amy is a member of International Association of Dance Medicine and Science (IADMS) and the Performing Arts Medical Association (PAMA). She provides backstage physical therapy services to professional dance companies in the city, most recently serving as the Care Coordinator for the on-site wellness program at The Oregon Ballet Theatre. She is also a contracting physical therapist with NeuroTour, the professional organization that supports traveling Broadway shows where she also treats musical theater performers with backgrounds as diverse as vocal performance, aerial and circus acts.
